The PSTN has existed for nearly a century. It served a very useful purpose but the limitations of this network are being reached. Over the last decade, service providers are realizing the benefits of moving away from circuit switched technology and are upgrading their networks. These network upgrades have provided efficiency enhancements for service providers but end users haven't received an increase in call quality.
